The Senator Ede Dafinone Free Diabetes Sensitization and Testing Medical Outreach arrived at the Orhuwhorhun Primary Health Centre — and with it came the promise of care many could no longer afford.
It was a day of relief, gratitude, and renewed hope on Monday as hundreds of residents of Udu Local Government Area benefited from the Senator Ede Dafinone Free Diabetes Sensitization and Testing Medical Outreach.
The outreach, which held at the Orhuwhorhun Primary Health Centre, was part of Senator Dafinone’s ongoing health initiative covering the eight local government areas in the Delta Central Senatorial District.
Organized in collaboration with the National Health Fellows and supported by the World Health Organization (WHO) and the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), the free medical mission offered essential healthcare services — including diabetes and blood pressure checks, tuberculosis screening, eye tests, and free reading glasses. Beneficiaries also received free medications and medical consultations.
For many residents, the exercise was a lifeline in a time of economic hardship.
“We are so happy for this medical outreach. It has touched many lives today and rekindled their health,” said Mr. Daniel Odien, Senator Dafinone’s Liaison Officer for Udu LGA. “God bless our distinguished senator for remembering the people of Udu Kingdom.”
Similarly, Mr. Darlington Ehriejakor, Senior Special Assistant to the Senate President and Ward Coordinator for Senator Dafinone, lauded the senator’s consistency in supporting community health.
“This is an amazing initiative that shows real care for the people. We thank Senator Dafinone and his team for this act of love and service. We pray that God gives him the strength to do even more for Delta Central,” he said.
Arc. Alex Emuobor Oniomughare, Assistant Liaison Officer to Senator Dafinone, emphasized the significance of the program, especially for elderly residents.
“Many participants are in high spirits because opportunities like this come once in a while,” he noted. “We pray that God empowers Senator Dafinone to make this a yearly event”, he stated.
For the beneficiaries, the outreach went beyond medical care — it was an awakening about their health.
Madam Edirin Ararirhe, one of the participants, shared her experience with visible relief:
“When I heard about this programme, I rushed down because I didn’t know what was wrong with me. After my check-up, they told me I had high blood pressure and gave me treatment. I’m so grateful — may God bless Senator Dafinone for helping people like me.”
Another resident, Mrs. Precious Egbe, spoke with heartfelt appreciation:
Several residents described the outreach as a “timely intervention,” noting that many people in rural communities often suffer silently due to lack of access to affordable healthcare.
Senator Dafinone’s free medical outreach, they said, is not just a health programme but a testament to compassionate leadership — bringing government closer to the people and restoring hope where it had waned.
As the event came to a close, one message echoed among the crowd: “Let this not be the last.”
