Comrade Johnny Obakpororo, aka Comrade Obas, an NDC faithful from Ughelli North LGA and a House of Reps aspirant, has expressed strong optimism that he would be declared the flag bearer of the party primary election which was concluded recently.
Fielding questions from newsmen after the primary which held in the various wards in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu LGAs, Comrade Obas stated that he scored the highest votes in the exercise, adding that he was surprised at the number of NDC members who turned out in his support.
“I want to greet the people of Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu. In fact, it was a massive turnout. I did not expect such massive support from the three U’s.
“The primary election which took place in Ughelli North, Ughelli South and Udu yesterday, it was a massive turnout. From Ughelli where I was born to Agbarha, Ogor and Evwreni, the support was overwhelming. I want to thank them.
“The primary was generally peaceful. The turn out was massive in Olomu, Otu-Jeremi and other places. Fortunately, I had not co-contestant in Ughelli South”, Comrade Obas said.
On why he chose to go into politics, Comrade Obas said he, amongst others have been working for political leaders but the moment they get into offices, the neglect the youths and become inaccessible.
He stated that he defected from the APC to the NDC, to ensure they change the old system, adding that it was time to change the system.
According to him, in spite of the people who have represented the federal constituency, there is no infrastructure anywhere, adding that in Udu the job the youth do is using motorbikes for transport. “We want to change the narrative”, he said.
He said at the time he was picking his forms, he told the leadership he will win the primary election.
“I told them, me Oba’s, I will win the election. I told them I will win them from the bottom to the top. I’m very sure I would be announce as the winner”, he said.
