An Isoko North-based group, Isoko New Elite Movement, INEM, has commended His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori for appointing one of their own, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme as the State Hon. Commissioner for Health in his cabinet.
The occasion was the meeting of the group which took place in Ozoro, headquarters of Isoko North Local Government Area recently where the members reiterated their resolve to give their unflinching support for the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori especially his governorship ambition in 2027 as well as their support for the Commissioner, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme.
Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the event, the Coordinator of the group, Dr. Ewomano Oghoumu, stated that the main aim of the group was to work hand in hand with the Honourable Commissioner of Health, Dr. Onojaeme to ensure that he is successful in his duties and to use the platform to work for Gov. Oborevwori in 2027.
Dr. Oghoumu added that the Honourable Commissioner was doing very well, noting that the Governor did not make a mistake appointing him to the exalted position of a Commissioner of Health.
He recalled that Governor Oborevwori broke the jinx when he appointed an Isoko youth as a Commissioner, adding that it was the first time such appointment to Isoko.
According to him, the group comprises of like-minded youths drawn from the thirteen wards in the Isoko North, stressing that they were prepared to work with the Commissioner to attract the dividends of democracy to Isoko land.
“What the movement is all about is that is for us to work hand in hand with one of our young breeds who happened to join the government circle recently in the capacity of the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme. He is doing very well.
“We are grateful to the Governor, His Excellency Rt Hon Sheriff Oborevwori for appointing Dr. Onojaeme as a member of his Exco. Before now we don’t have any Isoko youth in government position. But now we have one and we have decided that group from the 13 federal wards in Isoko North should associate with him and support him in whatever he is doing so that we can have more youths appointed to positions for more democratic dividends to Isoko nation “, he said.
On what the group would evaluate the Gov Oborevwori-led administration particularly in the health sector, Dr. Oghoumu said the government has scored close to hundred percent, adding that several awards have been received by the ministry under the watch of the Commissioner, Dr. Onojaeme, noting that WHO, UNICEF, and National Primary Health Commission have commended Delta State government in the health sector.
“I will score them (Gov Oborevwori and the Commissioner) close to hundred percent. They have really done well. The Commissioner in his capacity has done exceedingly well in terms of public health.
“So many awards have been received by the government through the leadership of the Commissioner of Health, Dr. Joseph Onojaeme. He has also through his cordial relationship with staff, the incessant strike action in the ministry has been checked”, he said.
Also speaking, the chairman of the group, Mr. Daniel Orakpor, said that INEM was formed upon the appointment of Dr. Joseph Onojaeme was appointed the Commissioner of Health, adding that he was chosen to be the Patron because he was young and also vibrant.
According to him, the group was formed as a special multipurpose vehicle to support the Governor in 2027, adding that they have been meeting and strategizing.
He noted that the Governor has done a lot in the past two years especially in area of roads infrastructure, health and human capital development.
