The Delta Ijaw APC Stakeholders have resolved to work together and speak with one voice ahead of 2027 general election even as they profoundly commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the appointments of Dr. Denis Otuaro as Administrator for Presidential Amnesty Programme and Barr. Bosin Ebikeme, Chairman of Nigeria Delta Basin Development Authority.
The APC group which came up with the resolutions in a meeting convened by former Minister of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Elder Godsday Orubebe in his country home, Ogbobagbene, in Burutu LGA over the weekend, also thanked President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the steps he has so far taken to reposition the country and also for the Pipelines Security Contract, he awarded to TANTITA CO. Ltd, owned by an Ijaw illustrious son, High Chief Government Ekpemupolo (aka Tompolo).
The meeting which was attended by representatives of APC Leaders and stakeholders from Warri North, Warri South, Warri South-West, Burutu, Bomadi and Patani LGAs also resolved strongly to be united to negotiate for political power in 2027.
The Resolution states thus: “1) To work together as a United ijaw people to maximize our population advantage being the most populated ethnic group in Delta State
2) Commends Mr President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the bold and pragmatic steps he has taken so far to reposition the country
3) Commends Mr President for the appointment of Delta ijaw people into government ,that is Dr Denis Otuaro as Administrator of the Presidential Amnesty Program Barr Bosin Ebikeme as Chairman of Niger Delta Basin Development Authority, and asks for more recognitions and appointments
4)To do everything to ensure the unity of the ijaws in the APC towards ensuring victory in the 2027 general elections
5)To make sure that the ijaws get their right place in the party at the state level in the forthcoming Congress.”
Addressing the participants before the meeting went into a closed-door session, the convener, Elder Godsday Orubebe disclosed that he called the meeting to ask the APC members to work together in unity and forged a common direction in the party.
He noted that hitherto Ijaws have been divided and weakened by external forces, adding that the time had come for the Ijaws to capitalize on their overwhelming numbers, their quality, their brain and their knowledge to determine whatever position they want in 2027.
“If we are united as it is promising to be, this force will be recognized, this force will be respected and this force can dictate the pace of Delta politics. If these leaders are working together there is no force in Delta State that will say we don’t need this people.
“I’m pleading with all of you, I’m begging all of you. We can only be stronger when we are united, when we come together to work for our common interest.
“The last time we had a governorship candidate, Ijaw people never met to say when you become governor these are the things we want. This is because there was no unity, no commonness, we were just working. So, even if we had won that election, we would have been fighting here and there.
“But 2027 is not going to be like that. If you want to become the governor, you will come and meet the Ijaw leaders. Ijaw people will tell you this is what we want and you will agree with us. From today, the force of Ijaw establishment is put in place. And we will get to where we are going.
“Very soon, party congresses will be coming. Ijaw leaders must sit like this and say this is what we want. And we will demand for it and fight for it. It’s not me that will get it, it’s one of you that will get it. And I will be there with other leaders to fight for the best position we need for Ijaw people”, Orubebe said.
Fielding questions from newsmen shortly after the meeting, a leader of the party, Hon. Dr. Felix Tuodolor, said that the meeting was convened to ensure that all APC Ijaws in Delta State will henceforth work in unity, adding that that has been lacking overtime.
He also disclosed that the Ijaw APC Stakeholders has commended President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for the Pipelines Security Contract that the Federal Government awarded to TANTITA CO. LTD which has brought peace and security to oil infrastructure in the Niger Delta.
“This meeting is a meeting of Delta Ijaw APC Stakeholders. We met today and resolved to work together as one. It is something that has been lacking amongst us. We are not unified.
“We also commended Mr. President for the security job given to TANTITA LTD and we expressed that gladness that the company is executing the job satisfactorily and thus reducing the spate of theft of oil (illegal bunkering) in the country”, Dr. Tuodolo said.
