Following a pathetic SOS message from one Ms. Elizabeth Omo Efemudiare, an ND 1 student of Accounting who Hails from Ugono-Orogun, in Ughelli North LGA, the member representing Ughelli North Constituency I in the Delta State House of Assembly, Hon. Matthew Onojighofia Omonade, has responded with an offer of a full-funded scholarship to the indigent female student who has been facing financial challenge in her pursuit of education.

Omonade who announced the full-funded scholarship from ND to HND offer to Ms. Elizabeth Efemudiare, today September 11, 2025, recalled what it felt when he experienced a similar situation some years ago, adding that her case became worse being a girl-child who are being discriminated against in terms of education by some parents

The lawmaker said he was touched with empathy when he read the pathetic message from Elizabeth who is currently being faced with the likelihood of abandoning her Accounting study in one of the Polytechnics in the state, adding that her situation became more dire when her mother who was supporting her education is down with a chronic health challenge.

Hon. Omonade who has been known for his philanthropic and benevolent disposition over time, stated that having assisted in the treatment of Elizabeth’s mother, he was led by the spirit to see the academically-passionate Elizabeth through her education from ND to HND in the Polytechnics.

“On the 7th of July, 2025, I got an SOS message from a member of my Constituency whom I had never met before. The message got me sympathetic and empathetic. For someone who has had an uneasy journey after the painful and unfortunate demise of my loving and caring dad in 2001, I know firsthand what it means to struggle and try to complete a journey with hiccups here and there.

“Elizabeth Omo Efemudiare from Ugono Orogun, Delta State, tells the story of a young ND 1 undergraduate of Accounting whose dad does not believe in the girl-child education. As a result, she receives no support whatsoever from her dad to support her education.

“Her mom, her only supporter and pillar, had been down with asthma and needed urgent medical support. The mother had been funding her education through the proceeds from a small store business she had which had since collapsed. They now depend solely on farming, but their cassava crop is not ready for harvest. The situation is critical due to her mother’s worsening health and their lack of income.

“I sent emissaries to her school and her community to independently fact-check her story and was confirmed to be true. I immediately requested for her account number and credited same with some funds to get inhalers and foodstuffs for her mother.

“Few days ago, I was led in my spirit to check on her and to know where she was. She told me that she was working as a cleaner in a hotel temporarily during the holiday. When I read through the Whatsapp message again, I did not know when I became teary, heavily gripped with emotions.

“Today, 11th September, 2025, I had the opportunity of meeting with Elizabeth and I broke the news of my award of SCHOLARSHIP to her. I have undertaken to see her through her ND and HND programs respectively”, he declared.

Omonade also used the occasion to appeal to other well-meaning and kind-spirited individuals to extend the hand of fellowship to Elizabeth and others in her related situation, especially those who are facing unwarranted neglect meted to the Girl-child in the society.

‘I wish to use this medium to appeal to all well-meaning individuals to assist in the best ways they can to support this determined young lady and other persons in related situations”, he concluded.
