After nearly several months of serious consultations and engagement with various cadres of party membership, the Delta State APC Reconciliation Committee has submitted its report with several recommendations meant to reposition the party in the State.
It would be recalled that the State Working Committee, SWC, set up a Reconciliation Committee several months ago following a wave of resentments a d disagreement among the party leadership in the aftermath of the loss of the governorship election in the March, 2023 election.
The Reconciliation Committee under the chairmanship of the founding leader of the party in the State, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, had assiduously worked round the clock appealing to the different tendencies from the grassroots to the Federal level, after which it collated its findings and came up with a comprehensive report.
The report which was presented by Elder Godsday Orubebe on behalf of the chairman, Olorogun O’tega Emerhor, was received by the acting State chairman, Chief Paulinus Akpeki at the party State Secretariat, Asaba recently.
Speaking after the presentation of the report, Elder Orubebe who was chairman of the Reconciliation Subcommittee in Delta State, gave details of the document, stating that there were strategies and actionable steps contained therein which, if well implemented, will steer the ship of APC in the State to the path of unity and strength ahead of 2027.
Orubebe who emphasized the recommendations of the report to include the setting up of a 40-man Leadership Council to be constituted from the 25 LGAs, further stated that the body will include the incumbent Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, SAN and the immediate past governorship of the party and former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege as co-chairmen. According to him, the Leadership Council will be replicated at the senatorial and even at the grassroots levels, stressing that the purpose was to strengthen the unity of the party.
Orubebe said: “Decentralizing authority to empower leaders at various levels to oversee candidate nomination for Party Congresses, thereby avoiding the Hijack of Congresses by one leader or individual or group of individuals and thereafter, foisting such structures on the Party.
“Implementing a robust fundraising strategy to ensure collective financial responsibility for the party’s activities and not one-man sponsorship.”
It was gathered that the SWC intends to solicit the endorsement of other key leaders in the state before submitting the report to the APC National Working Committee (NWC) and ultimately to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR.
Orubebe assured that if well implemented, the recommendation of the Reconciliation Committee Report will restore unity and strength to the party in the State.
“If faithfully implemented, these recommendations will resolve longstanding crises and restore unity and strength to Delta APC”, he noted.
