Two-time Commissioner and chieftain of the All Progressive Congress in Delta State, Olorogun Barr. Fred Okiemute Majemite, has said that although political campaigns towards the 2027 election are yet to kick off, the incumbent governor, His Excellency Rt Hon. Elder Sheriff Oborevwori, does not need to bother himself about Ughelli North Local Government Area, as tangible multi-billion naira projects completed and ongoing in the area have done the campaign.
Olorogun Majemite in an interview in his country home recently stated that Gov. Oborevwori has beaten all expectations in performance, pointing out that even across the State his tangible signature projects speak for themselves and, indeed, do the campaign for the governor.
It would be recalled that few weeks ago in his speech during the flag off of the Otovwodo junction Flyover in Ughelli main town, said that his projects are everywhere and they speak for themselves.
However, fielding questions during the interview, the Ughelli-born chief affirmed that campaign for 2027 Governorship election for Gov. Oborevwori is a ‘fait accompli’.
“The Governor has done his campaign in Ughelli North already. Like he said during the flag off of the Otovwodo junction Flyover, what he has done across the State are speaking for him. Like I said in one of the fora, many people did not give him a chance when he was elected the governor.
“In fact, one of the very strong opposition to him then in Ughelli North, recently confessed that he never knew he was going to be a blessing to Deltans”, Majemite said.
Majemite who was in governorship race in 2022 when Governor Sheriff won the then PDP primary, noted that the people of Ughelli North have every reason to support the Governor’s bid for 2027, adding that one good turn deserves another.
“I have always said that to whom much is given, much is expected. The governor, without mincing words, is doing very well, if you ask me because the tangibles are there, the things he is doing are there, you can see them.
“Although there few intangibles he is doing that may not be known to all, but in the aspects of road and bridges construction, he is doing very well. And again too, he has also sustained the projects that his predecessors started – like the free maternal health care 0-5 is still there. For those who visit government hospitals can testify that that project is still going on.
“So, for me, the governor has done so well for the people of Ughelli North as the only way we can appreciate him is to ensure that come 2027, we give him our votes. Ughelli North has always been in opposition for some time now. But I’m sure he has broken the jinx.
“So, I don’t see him having problem with Ughelli North, most especially with the merger of the PDP to the APC. The leaders that matter from both sides are all with him. So, we have not reason but to work for him to return in 2027”, he said.
Majemite gave assurance that Governor Sheriff will win 100% in Ughelli North in 2027, pointing out that with recent marriage between PDP and APC, and the fact that he is performing so well, he believes the governor will get overwhelming votes come 2027.
“Yes, the governor will win in Ughelli North 100% in 2027. Even before now, most members of opposition in the area have been unanimous in agreement that the government is doing so much. Now with this marriage between PDP and APC, it shows the he is going to do even more.
“And like I said to the people of Ughelli North, to whom much is given, much is expected. I strongly believe that he will get an overwhelming votes come 2027. I have not seen anybody who could beat his record”, Majemite said.
On why the governor has not focus on transportation sector which was abandoned in the last administration, Majemite said that although the governor has alluded to the fact that there is so much money in the state, Rome was not built in a day, adding that so many things are competing for money in the state.
Yes, the governor actually confessed there is so much money in the state as of now. As I said, it is not yet Uhuru. Definitely, there are some areas begging for attention. But Rome is not built in a day. The governor has done just two and half years on office.
As a State, Deltans are yet to feel the impact of transportation. I know that the Delta transport company was concessioned to a private investor to operate. But I don’t know if it was a good decision now because we are not seeing its impact. We are not seeing new buses, but I know the governor would soon focus attention on that sector”, he noted.
