Delta PDP chieftain and former Commissioner for Lands and Survey in the State, Olorogun Barr. Fred Majemite has called for stronger unity among Deltans as he stressed that having successfully obtained victories in more than thirty court cases in the aftermath of the March 2023 governorship election, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori has become the Governor of all Deltans irrespective of political parties, and therefore should be supported for him to execute his MORE agenda programme to develop the entire state.

In his birthday message to Deltans during an exclusive interview in his country home, Ughelli last week, Olorogun Majemite who also indicated interest in the 2023 governorship election of the state prior to the party primary, noted that Governor Oborevwori meant well for the state, adding that he habours no discriminatory tendency, hence he is found in most public events organized by opposition parties irrespective of political or ethnic divides.

He said: “I would advise Deltans to get closer to God because, in all of these it is only God that can actually make us to achieve the purpose for which He had created us. We should also see ourselves as one people, especially Deltans. We have only one State, Delta State.

“We have a governor already. So, we should support his MORE agenda because he is a governor for all of us. I know he means well for our people. He is a child of God. For him to survive 38 court cases and still remain the governor of Delta State shows that God is with him. And you all know that once God is with you, it is only good things that can come to you. And nobody can pull you down. We should support him and his MORE agenda so that Delta State can move forward”, he said.

Commenting against the backdrop of the Governor’s sterling achievement in so short a time, Olorogun Majemite stated that at the initial stage very few persons gave him a chance, adding that as his personal friend, he was convinced he would work the talk.

According to him, when Gov. Oborevwori was elected as the Speaker of the Delta State House of Assembly, nobody also thought he would succeed, but to the surprise of everyone, he performed beyond expectation and even made history as of the longest serving Speaker of the State Assembly after six years.

“Nobody gave him a chance. But for me because he is my personal friend I know that he would work the talk. As a member of the House, initially when was made the Speaker, nobody thought he was going to do that much. But he held the House. He was there for about six years, making him one of the longest-serving Speakers of the House. It shows that he is somebody who is focused, somebody who understands Delta State. For you to be a Speaker, shows that you are dealing with all the Local Governments. That is the implication. And he was there for about six years.

“As a governor, like I said before, many people did not give him a chance. But since he started, he has done very well. He has taken some decisions, whereby people are surprised he could do that. If you recall, he has cleared major part of the outstanding pensions; then promotion for civil servants and the arrears and he has also said that he would continue from where his predecessor stopped

“You can see that some of the projects which his predecessors could not complete, he has started working on them. Then of course, the ground-breaking of the renewed Warri infrastructure is something else. He has paid about 25% down payment, that shows he is very serious. That shows that it is not going to be one of those white elephant projects”, Majemite opined.

Olorogun Majemite also confirmed that the governor, His Excellency Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori does not support corruption and would not entertain any of his appointee to fall short of his standard. He recalled that the governor did not waste time in dealing decisively by suspending one of his Commissioners who was allegedly indicted of some corrupt tendencies recently.

According to him, the governor left behind so much money in the coffers of the State House of Assembly, adding that if he was that kind of corrupt personality, he would have appropriated such money to himself at his point of exit of the House of Assembly.

“It was a very courageous move, if you ask me. Like I said, those who know him knows that the governor is not somebody who is given to such things. He is very prudent in the management of funds. He would not want a situation where somebody who is working for him is seeing in that light. He would not tolerate it at all.

“When he left the House, he left behind so much money in the coffers of the Assembly. He would have appropriated that money to himself. But he did not do that, instead he returned the money to the treasury. So, if you are working with such a person and you want to do something else, he would not take it. He works the talk. I’m sure that has sent the right signals to others that if you get involved in any crime nobody will beg for you”, said
