Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Ede Dafinone, has congratulated Olorogun Prof. Joseph Abugu, SAN, on his recent emergence as President of the Urhobo Renaissance Society (URS).

In the same vein, Senator Dafinone has eulogized the immediate past president, Prof. Hope Eghagha for his leadership style which ensured the handover of a stronger and more resilient association to his successor.

In a statement released on Monday, Senator Dafinone described Prof. Abugu’s election as timely and significant, noting that it came at such a crucial moment when the quest for the unity, cultural preservation and collective advancement of the Urhobo nation has become very paramount.

According to him, the emergence of Prof. Abugu as the new president of the society is quite reassuring considering his background unparalleled commitment to the Urhobo cause, his academic process and attested leadership acumen, adding that these qualities make him a perfect round peg in a round hole.

“Professor Abugu’s election comes at a defining moment in our people’s pursuit of renewal and collective progress. His unwavering dedication to Urhobo values, combined with his contributions to academic and cultural thought, make him a most worthy choice to lead this respected body.

“The URS, guided by its motto ‘Egba R’Okugbe’, remains a rallying point for Urhobo sons and daughters across the world who are committed to the growth and progress of our people. Professor Abugu’s leadership comes at a defining moment and his pedigree as a legal scholar and cultural advocate makes him a worthy choice to lead this distinguished body”, Dafinone noted.

The Senator also showered encomium on the immediate past president of the Society, Prof. Eghagha, describing his tenure as most eventful and fulfilling.

He said: “Professor Eghagha’s tenure has laid a solid foundation for the Society’s growth. His efforts and pioneering leadership and tireless commitment to the vision development of the URS will remain memorable.”

Dafinone also commended the entire executive of the Prof. Abugu-led administration, pointing out that his emergence would usher in renewed vigour and collaboration, towards achieving the set objective and vision of the Society.

“Congratulations to the newly sworn-in excos who will serve alongside Professor Abugu, SAN. I am confident that this capable team will bring renewed energy, strategic vision, and a collaborative spirit to further the noble ideals of the Urhobo Renaissance Society.

“On behalf of the good people of Delta Central, I wish the new leadership a successful and impactful tenure. May this new phase of leadership foster greater unity and progress for the Urhobo nation,” he prayed.

The Urhobo Renaissance Society, known for its intellectual engagement and cultural advocacy, continues to play a key role in promoting Urhobo interests in Nigeria and beyond.
