Against the backdrop of the increasing insecurity, the Delta State government is set to embark on biometric data capturing of all tricycle and commercial motorbike operators across the State.
The recent increase in the spate of violent crimes such as kidnapping, armed robbery and rape amongst others in some parts of the State, have been linked to the notorious activities of tricycle and motorbike operators who attack innocent people and escape.
Addressing newsmen in Effurun today, a Consultant to the Directorate of Transportation in the State, Dr. Julius Babogha, disclosed that the government has concluded to embark on biometric data capture of commercial operators of tricycles and motorbikes.
Dr. Babogha stated that there will be registration and biometric capturing of commercial tricycle riders and Okada riders in Delta State to curb persistent issues of insecurity that is prevalent across major towns in Delta State.
He noted that the exercise will make it possible for government agencies to identify owners of commercial riders in the State with the aim of curbing crimes associated with the operators activities.
