With the recent signing of the contract for the take-off of the Phase III of the development of Warri and Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, WUEDA, residents of the affected areas have been notified to remove whatever structures erected along waterways, water channels and drainages as the contractors are already mobilizing to sites for the commencement of work.

It would be recalled that the Warri/Uvwie And Environs Development Agency under the administration of the Director-General, Hon. Prince Godwin Ejinyere had completed Phase I and II and the positive impact of its activities are evident in the twin cities of Effurun and Warri.

Speaking with DeltaVoice in her office in Bendel Estate, Effurun recently, the Public Relations Officer of the Warri/Uvwie and Environs Development Agency, Mrs. Stella Odinka stated that the Contractor was already mobilizing to site to commence the Phase III Storm Water Drainage project which is being executed by the Agency.

She stated that all was set for work to commence, adding that the contractor recently paid a courtesy visit to the Uvwie monarch, HRM Emmanuel Sideso, Abe I, Ovie of Uvwie kingdom to introduce themselves as the contractor in charge of the Phase III project and also to solicit support of the royal father as they mobilize to commence work immediately.

According to her, the Phase III project which will also involve clearing of blocked natural water channels, desilting and opening of drains, will concentrate on Uvwie Local Government Area and some parts of Warri South Local Government Area.

“Presently we are looking at the Phase III that is coming up. They have started going to site.

“It is going to be like Phase I and Phase II. This office has done a lot, but it’s just that the layman will not understand what we are doing because most of the jobs are carried out underground.

“The Director-General took Contractor to see the king of Uvwie sometime last week to introduce them to him that they will be the one to do the Phase III.

“It is necessary that as you want to work in the area, they should introduce themselves in order to create a mutual relationship with palace to avoid those ‘deve’ stuff when they start work”, she said.

The PRO pointed out that the DG also used the occasion of the visit to the monarch to advice those who have erected structure along waterways to start removing them before the contractors commence work.

She also stated that the Agency is currently embarking on massive public campaign to educate those with illegal structures on waterways to pull them down to avoid them being destroyed in the course of the job.

She disclosed that the scope of the Phase III project, just like the completed Phase I and II, will involve clearing of water channels, desilting of silted waterways as well as clearing of clogged drains, adding that the Phase III will concentrate more on Uvwie Local Government Area and Warri South Local Government Area.
