Senator representing Delta Central in the National Assembly, Distinguished Senator Ede Dafinone, has prayed for peace, unity, progress and longevity as the Monarch of Orogun kingdom in Ughelli North Local Government Area, His Royal Majesty, Osoukpa I, the Okpara-Uku of Orogun, was presented with Staff of office by the Executive Governor of the State, His Excellency Rt.Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The Governor who was represented by his deputy, Sir Monday Onyeme, presented the staff of office to the royal father today Monday 5 August, 2025 in a colourful ceremony attended by sons and daughters of the kingdom from home and in the Diaspora, including friends and well-wishers from far and near.

Senator Dafinone, in a statement he released, described the event as a significant milestone in the history of the Orogun Kingdom, adding that it was indeed a reaffirmation of the unique traditional system of Orogun people.

The Senator praised the Kingdom for preserving its gerontocratic system, in which the most elderly man from the Umusu quarter ascends the throne as Okpara-Uku, describing the tradition as a “rare and noble institution” that symbolizes “wisdom, longevity, and communal respect.”

“The Orogun Kingdom holds a unique and sacred place in Urhobo culture. This ancient system continues to reflect the values of justice, humility, and ancestral reverence that define the Urhobo heritage”, he noted.

“As your reign begins with the formal recognition of the Delta State Government, I pray for continued peace, unity, and progress in Orogun Kingdom.

“May your leadership be marked by divine health, wise counsel, and the strength to uphold the customs and aspirations of your people,” he stated.

The event attracted traditional rulers, government officials, and members of the community, who gathered to witness the historic moment just as they celebrate the enduring legacy of Orogun’s traditional leadership.
