Defection Update: Delta APC Reaffirms Validity of Membership E-Registration, Dismisses Ominimini’s False Alarm

*Tinubu, Oborevwori in support of E-Registration exercise
*Calls on decampees, public to disregard Ominimini’s falsehood

The leadership of the APC in Delta State has stoutly refuted the position being canvassed by Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi that the ongoing E-Registration of new members of the party was invalid without a formal registration with party ward chairmen.

It would be recalled that Chief Obiuwevbi in a recent public statement, canvassed the position that the ongoing E-Registration exercise was not authentic and valid without a formal registration with the party ward chairmen

However, contrary to Obiuwevbi’s position, the leadership of the party in the State in a statement signed by the State Publicity Secretary, Valentine Onojeghuo, declared that the ongoing E-Registration exercise was not only valid, but backed by the party’s Constitution as well as supported by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the leader of the party in the State, His Excellency Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori.

The statement which described Obiuwevbi’s information as reckless, baseless, and malicious, added that he was neither a party officer nor authorized to make statement on behalf of the party.

It further stated that Obiuwevbi was either demonstrating crass ignorance or deliberate disregard of the party’s Constitution with the aim of distracting a seamless exercise being executed by the party in the State in line with the party’s Constitution.

The statement urged defecting members to ignore Obiuwevbi and his ilks, adding that the ongoing E-Registration exercise has been endorsed by the national leadership of the party.

“The attention of the leadership of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Delta State has been drawn to a recent statement credited to Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, wherein he falsely claimed that the ongoing E-registration exercise of newly defected members into our great Party is invalid without formal registration through the ward chairmen.

“Delta APC condemns in the strongest terms these reckless, baseless, and malicious statements being propagated by Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi concerning the ongoing E-registration, as not only unfounded but also demonstrating a gross ignorance or blatant disregard for the Party Constitution and the official directives of the National leadership.

“The E-registration system carries the official imprimatur of the National leadership and is a valid channel for membership registration at this critical time when the Party is seeking to grow its membership base across the nation”, the statement noted.

The statement further explained that Article 9 of the party’s Constitution expressly provides for the validity of online registration of members, adding that Obiuwevbi didn’t bother to get himself acquainted with the provisions of the party’s Constitution before engaging in such mischievous attempt.

“It is unfortunate that Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi, who is neither an officer of the Party nor holds any official authority within the Party’s hierarchical structures, would attempt to arrogate to himself the authority to interpret the provisions of the Party’s Constitution and speak on its internal processes. Incontrovertibly, Article 9 of the APC Constitution explicitly provides for the validity of online registration. This is a clear, unambiguous provision aimed at modernizing and facilitating the inclusive and transparent registration of Party members across all levels.

“Regrettably, it is obvious that Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi did not acquaint himself with the contents of the provisions of Article 9 before making his blatantly false narratives on the legality and legitimacy of the online registration by new members, or perhaps he deliberately chose to ignore the same for selfish political interests”, the statement noted.

The statement further reinforced its stance on the validity of online registration, pointing that the meeting of the National Executive Committee (NEC) held on the 26th of February, 2025 unanimously adopted online registration as a valid mechanism for membership, adding that the decision of the NEC in that meeting alone clearly obliterate Ominimini’s claims.

The statement further expressed disappointment at Ominimini’s deceitful narrative, adding that contrary to his claim, online E-Registration cannot lead to a parallel executive, just as it re-emphasized that Elder Omeni Sobotie remains the State chairman of the party, while Dr. Abdullahi Umar Ganduje is the national chairman.

“Fundamentally, it should be recalled that the National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting convened on the 26th of February, 2025, had unanimously approved the adoption of online registration as a legitimate and binding mechanism for membership enrollment.

“This approval represents a landmark decision to embrace technology and broaden participation, thereby rendering obsolete the claims by Chief Ominimini Obiuwevbi that the ongoing E-registration exercise is invalid or unauthorized.

“Delta APC finds it utterly disgraceful and shameful that Chief Ominimini would deliberately peddle falsehoods designed to sow confusion, panic and division within the Delta APC. His baseless narrative that the online registration of new members will result in a parallel executive of the Party is a deceitful fabrication with no basis in fact or reality.

“For the avoidance of doubt, there is only one State Executive Committee, under the legitimate chairmanship of Elder Omeni Sobotie, duly recognized by the National Working Committee led by the National Chairman. Any attempt to suggest otherwise is an act of gross misconduct and political sabotage engineered by Chief Ominimini to destabilize the Party and hinder its growth”, the statement reads.

“Delta APC states unequivocally that the legitimacy of the E-registration exercise is further reinforced by the direct approval and support of His Excellency President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, GCFR, alongside collaboration with His Excellency Rt. Hon Sheriff Oborevwori, the leader of the Party in Delta State.

“This endorsement from the highest offices of our Party and government underscores the authenticity and paramount importance of the E-registration exercise in integrating newly defected members from the PDP and other political parties into our fold”, the statement added.
