Ahead Of Congress: ‘Lack Of Internal Democracy Bane Of Disunity In Delta APC, Says Omo-Agege

Ahead of the next Congress of the All Progressives Congress, APC, in Delta, former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has said that apparent lack of internal democracy is the bane of the disunity and leadership failure in the party.

Omo-Agege gave this indication in Effurun on Wednesday December 17, during an interactive session with leaders and stakeholders of the party in Uvwie Local Government Area, also assured that the forthcoming Congress of the party shall be conducted using Option A4 approach.

“If you look at it very well, what everybody is complaining about now is lack of internal democracy. They don’t want everybody to have a say on who will serve on the exco for the ward, the LGA exco, the State exco and on who will go to the House of Assembly and other positions.

He also predicted the collapse of the PDP in the State, adding that the process has just begun with the recent decamping of the daughter of former governor, Chief James Ibori and her supporters in Ethiope West and Ethiope East LGAs.

“I’m ready to commit to my leaders here today, I’m ready to commit to all of you, that as part of the effort to strengthen the party ahead of 2027, we will not allow anybody to write list for Congress. Nobody will write list for exco.  Everybody will go to their wards to line up behind the person of their choice and after counting, the  person with the highest number people who queue behind him will emerge.

“That is how we have planned it. That is the way to strengthen the party. But some of them don’t want it that way.  They say they want to put together some leaders who will write lists. But we say no. If we do Option A4, if the line of other person is longer than your own, then you cannot complain. That’s how we want it and that is what we want to do”, Omo-Agege said.

The former Deputy President of the Senate also addressed some grievances expressed that attention is being given to decapees from other parties to the APC more than old members. According to Senator Omo-Agege, politics is a game of numbers, adding that those decamping from other parties to APC should be welcome just as he predicted that the PDP in the State will collapse before 2027.

“Politics is a game of numbers. If people decamped from their parties to join you, welcome everybody.  I want to assure you, as we approach 2027, that their party, the PDP will collapse very soon.

“If you think we have problem in APC, we don’t have problem compared to what is about to happen in the PDP. The whole thing has started. Just last week we went to receive former governor, Chief Ibori’s daughter in Oghara. As we speak right now the entire PDP in Ethiope West and Ethiope East have collapsed.  This is just the beginning”, he said.
