A group of Urhobo sons and daughters have unanimously called on the immediate past Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege to throw his hat in the ring to contest for the next Delta Centra Senatorial seat come 2027
The call was sponsored by notable Urhobo sons and daughters including Brig. Gen. A. O. Okpeki, Bishop Fred Arubere Ede, Olorogun Engr. Paul Omemiroro Evwierhoma, Chief Gabriel Okagbare JP, Comrade Sunny Enenuvwedia, Chief Francis Irikefe Egodotaye, Chief Origin Joseph Ochuko JP, Chief C. C. L Wiliki, Hon. Okpara.
Others include Kingsley, Chief Solomon Orape, Hon. Erabor Richard, Hon. Agiri Matthew, Chief Williams Makinde, Mrs. Eunice Okunima, Comrade Omeru Oghenero, Hon. Egbevwe Godfrey, Hon. Francis Madagwa, Rt. Hon. Chief Kingsley, Hon. Andrew, and Barr. Ese Agiri.
The group recalled vividly the sterling achievement of Senator Omo-Agege as a principal officer in the Red Chamber, including the Federal Polytechnic, Orogun, Federal University of Medical and Health Sciences, Kwale and the Defence Airspace School, Orogun amongst several other landmark achievements.
The group also recalled Senator Omo-Agege’s bill which established the Federal University of Petroleum Resources, Effurun (FUPRE), adding that it was the bill that culminated in the legal framework for the University.
The group averred that Obarisi Ovie Omo-Agege’s achievements in the Senate has raised the bar of representation to such a height that it has become a great challenge for others to cope with.
The group also observed that Urhobo can only be relevant in national politics with a strategic representation in the Senate, adding that it was the sole reason the people are calling for a return of the former Deputy President of the Senate to the Red Chamber in 2027.
According to the group, Urhobo need not just a senator who is respected, courageous and dependable, he must be someone who can truly advocate for Urhobos goals and long term vision of the people.
“We are on the hunt for a dynamic leader with a track record of success, fresh ideas, and the ability to deliver meaningful projects that will benefit future generations.
“It is essential for someone who thrives in teamwork, a principled patriot with the experience to navigate complex issues.
“We want a trusted leader who embodies progressive values. These are the qualities we envision for Urhobo representative in the 11th Senate”, the group submitted.
The group further noted that although they have much respect for every Urhobo aspiring to the Senate in 2027, the achievement of Senator Omo-Agege from 2015-2023, makes him the “standout choice”.
They therefore made a clarion call on Senator Omo-Agege to throw his hat in the ring and aspire to go back to the Senate to offer purposeful leadership to the Urhobos, stating that his presence in the Red Chamber will:
a). make the Urhobo voice in the National Assembly to be strong; ensuring our interests in national discourses are heard clearly and addressed properly;
b). He will collaborate with the Delta State government to drive development and aligning efforts for maximum impact, amongst others.
“Obarisi, the people are counting on you right now; step up and run for Senate to bring progress back to the Delta Central Senatorial District”, the group concluded.
