The defining moment of political dynamics to usher in who flies the flag of the All Progressive Congress (APC) for Ethiope Federal Constituency is around the corner and the seeming consensus slides in favour of the political Amazon, Rt. Hon. Mrs. Erhiatake Ibori Suenu, scion of the Ibori dynasty.
A legendary Urhobo musical maestro, late Chief Go-Slow once qualified a good man as one who feels the cause of the people at heart. Hon. Mrs. Suenu’s emergence in the political firmament of Ethiope Federal Constituency in 2022 or thereabout was certainly not out of a desire to create a potential of honey for herself but a passion to address the pains and feelings of her constituents.
The grandmaster of Delta State modern-day democratic process, the legendary Odidigborigbo of Urhobo land and former governor of the state, Chief James Onanefe Ibori has left a legacy which comprised of a big political pair of shoe that must be worn. It wasn’t a surprise therefore that his daughter, the Amazon herself, has proved her mettle when she took up the challenge to contest for the Ethiope Federal Constituency representative in 2023, an election she won convincingly and democratically.
Hon. Suenu’s manifesto and political vision were neatly woven around her innate desire to serve her constituency and constituents to the best of her ability. And it was against that backdrop that she got elected in the Ethiope Federal Constituency to make laws that will positively impact the lives of her constituents, attract infrastructural projects and empowerment for her people.
Nearly three years down the line, her achievement could be described in a Latin maxim, res ipsa loquitur – the thing speaks for itself. Succinctly put, the streak of achievements of the Ethiope Amazon, are convincing enough for her return in 2027.
Addressing a cross-section of the media recently, the Director of Media of Ibori Suenu Grassroots Network (ISGN), Dr. Henry Ofa, described effective representation as visionary actions that leave lasting footprints in the lives of the people, adding that the Honourable member has continued to distinguish herself through purposeful leadership and transformative legislative initiatives.
Dr. Ofa reeled out an inexhaustible details of Erhiatake’s sterling performance in the green chamber where she has continued to distinguish herself through purposeful leadership and transformative legislative initiatives.
“Among her most remarkable strides is the sponsorship of two strategic bills currently at various legislative stage including “An Act to Establish the Nigerian Customs College, Oghara, Ethiope West and “An Act to Establish the Nigerian School of Paramedics, Isiokoro,Ethiope East”, Dr. Ofa recalled, adding that ‘these proposed institutions represent more than infrastructure projects.
“They are deliberate investments in human capital, economic prosperity, and long-term security for our constituency”, he said.
The former Secretary of SUBEB and Commissioner in DESOPADEC, also recalled that Hon. Erhiatake’s facilitating ‘the establishment of a Customs College in Oghara, Ethiope West will position our constituency as a national training hub for customs administration and revenue services”, noting that “the impact will be multidimensional including the creation of direct and indirect employment opportunities”.
According to Dr. Ofa, the establishment of the Customs College in Oghara has “increased commercial activities and local business growth, improved infrastructure development, greater federal presence, institutional visibility and expanded career pathways for young people interested in customs and excise services”.
He also stressed that beyond the immediate benefits, the college will stimulate housing, transportation, and service industries while strengthening security awareness and national revenue education.
Ofa also disclosed that her effort towards establishing a Nigerian School of Paramedics, Isiokolo, Ethiope East.LGA will remain a “health care cornerstone of national development”, adding that “it will significantly enhance emergency response capacity and professional medical training within the constituency.”
He further added that a School of Paramedics will provide opportunities for professional training for aspiring healthcare workers, strengthen
emergency and first-response systems,
promote public health awareness, safety education, reduction in preventable deaths through skilled paramedical intervention and attract medical partnerships and outreach programs.
“By hosting a specialized medical training institution, our constituency will become a center for healthcare advancement and lifesaving innovation”, he noted.
Ofa also disclosed that Hon. Erhiatake has delivered on remarkable tangibles including community electrification initiatives, free medical outreach services, road construction and rehabilitation projects, monthly stipends for vulnerable constituents, facilitation of both foreign and local scholarships,
free Jamb Registration, consistent presence and compassion during moments of celebration and grief.
Ofa further noted that one good turn deserves another, adding that it is necessary to continue the legacy which Hon. Erhiatake has established in her first tenure.
“At this critical stage, continuity becomes essential. Steady representation ensures the successful passage of the bills into law, proper funding in subsequent national budgets,
timely commencement of construction and operations and a strong oversight to guarantee quality execution
“Interrupting the process could delay momentum and stall the realization of these transformative projects. Development thrives on consistency, persistence, and institutional memory.
“The proposed Nigerian Customs College, Oghara, Ethiope West LGA and the Nigerian School of Paramedics, Isiokolo Ethiope East LGA – both symbolize a forward-looking vision for our constituency”, he said, adding that it is one rooted in opportunity, growth, and sustainable advancement.
“With an established record of performance and a clear legislative roadmap for the future, supporting continuity at this defining moment is not merely a political preference; it is a strategic decision for enduring development”, Dr. Ofa stated, adding that “continuity is the bridge between vision and lasting impact”.
