By Victor Lewis

Midway into the first four-year term of His Excellency, Rt Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori, as governor of Delta State, his sterling performance has proved critics and those with cynical mindsets, wrong. It has been an action-packed two years of performance that exceeds expectations or even imagination. Which is why, the governor, his family and the entire state rolled out drums in Asaba, yesterday May 29, 2025, to thank and give praise to God.

A day earlier, May 28, 2025, the governor, His Excellency, Rt. Hon. Sheriff Oborevwori had reeled out his intimidating mid-term score card at the State House of Assembly. But most people saw that as a re-emphasis of the obvious, as the general opinion of Deltans, without exception, has been that of an unexpected and uncommon performance in the past two years. In fact, it could be conveniently captured in the maxim, ‘res ipsa loqutor’ – the fact speaks for itself.

And so, when Deltans from all walks of life, including admirers from other states across the country, defied the heavy downpour to converge in Asaba, for a thanksgiving and Praise Day to God over a very successful two-year governance and practical demonstration of the M.O.R.E. agenda, it was worth it. Indeed, it was electrifying and emotional as Deltans danced to melodious and inspirational live renditions from renowned gospel artists.

In a brief address by the governor, he reflected on the the past two years of governance in the state led by him, and concluded that it could only be through the mighty hands of God.

Gov. Oborevwori, while reviewing his M.O.R.E. Agenda in the past two years, assured that Deltans should expect more in the second phase that will be characterized by remarkable transformation and development across the State.

The governor explained his administration’s recent decision to partnership with the federal government which culminated in the fusion of the People Democratic Party, PDP, in the State with the All Progressives Congress, which is the majority party in the country, adding that it was a win win situation and the state will be better for it.

Oborevwori reiterated that the state, and indeed, every Deltan has very good reasons to thank God, noting that the gift of life was uppermost.

“It is our custom in Delta State to return all the glory to God for all He has done, and today, we are here to show our appreciation”, he noted, adding the M.O.R.E agenda was a combination of effort to complete ongoing projects and breaking new grounds and new pathway for socio-economic advancement of the entire state.

“Yesterday, I presented our midterm report to the State House of Assembly. It is a catalogue of progress across all indices of socio-economic development. Indeed, God has been faithful to us.

“As you know, thanksgiving is an application for more. We need more, and that is why we have come here to give thanks.

“As we begin the third year of our administration with thanksgiving, I believe God will continue to increase us and grant us our collective desires as a people”, he stated.

Harping on the numerous benefits actually from the recent adoption of the APC, Gov. Oborevwori noted that the much-desired unity of the State has become a reality with the coming together of both federal and state actors to work for the progress of the state.

“I am delighted to see our federal lawmakers, federal appointees, and leaders of our great party, the APC, fully represented here today. This gathering reflects the diversity and unity of our state.

“I believe we are more united now than ever, and we shall continue in that unity in Jesus’ name. The faces here today represent the who’s who of Delta State. For the first time in ten years, we are united. To God be the glory”, the governor emphasized.

He however urged Deltans to continue in prayer and support for the government, especially for peace and development of the State.

“We covet your prayers and continued support in our mission to advance Delta State through the MORE Agenda. I assure you all that we will do more, and we will listen to the people more.

“The remaining two years of this administration will be an exciting adventure in transformational leadership

“As a major contributor to the national coffers, Delta State deserves and will receive more benefits from the center”, he assured.

Speaking on the sermon titled “Giving Thanks and Enduring to Keep the Unity in the Bond of Peace,” the guest preacher of the occasion, Archbishop of Bendel Province, Anglican Communion, Archbishop Cyril Odutemu, congratulated the governor on a successful mid-term celebration. He however admonished the governor not to leave behind those who assisted him as he progresses into the second phase of his first tenure in office.

Present at the occasion were the State Deputy Governor, Mr. Monday Oyeme, all national lawmakers from the state, all members of the State House of Assembly, all commissioners and other political appointees, Minister representing the state, Festus Keyamo, APC State party chairman, Elder Omeni Sobotie and the state exco, Founding Leader of the APC in the State, Olorogun O’rtega Emerhor, amongst others.
