Dafinone Condemns Brutal Assault on Corps Member By Anambra Vigilantes — Demands Justice, CompensationProf. Charles Soludo, Governor of Anambra State

Senator representing Delta Central Senatorial District in the National Assembly, Ede Dafinone, has strongly condemned the brutal assault on Miss Edema Jennifer Elohor, a serving National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) member in Oba, Idemili South Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The cruel actions perpetrated by armed operatives of Operation Udo Ga-Achi, otherwise known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, were not only a grave violation of her dignity and rights but also an affront to the ideals of national service and unity.

Describing the incident as “inhuman, barbaric, cruel and an affront to national unity,” the lawmaker demanded the immediate arrest and prosecution of members of the Operation Udo Ga-Achi, also known as the Agunechemba Vigilante Group, who allegedly carried out the dastardly attack.

He further described the dastardly act of the Vigilantes operatives as not only despicable, but a violation of the dignity of the victim, but also an affront to the ideals of national service and unity.

It would be recalled that the internet was inundated with a viral video that showed members of the vigilante operatives storming the corps members’ lodge, assaulting them despite the production of valid NYSC identification cards. Elohor was reportedly beaten, stripped naked, left bleeding, and subjected to humiliating threats.

“No Nigerian citizen, much less a young lady serving her fatherland, should ever be subjected to such dehumanising treatment,” Dafinone said, stressing the urgent need to regulate the activities of untrained armed vigilante groups.

He urged the Anambra State Government to take full responsibility by compensating Elohor for the physical, psychological, and emotional trauma suffered.

Dafinone further called on the NYSC to guarantee the safety of corps members in Anambra, warning that parents’ trust must not be betrayed by negligence or failure to ensure their wellbeing.

“The attack on Jennifer Elohor is a test of our collective resolve against impunity,” he said, adding that “Justice must be swift, perpetrators punished, and reforms instituted to prevent a repeat of this shameful abuse.”
