Exactly a year and nine months after the APC in Delta State lost the governorship election to the PDP, the candidate for the APC party in that election and former Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Ovie Omo-Agege, has identified internal sabotage especially among some of the party leaders as responsible for the failure of the party.
Omo-Agege who gave this indication in Oviorie-Ovu while holding an interactive meeting with leaders and stakeholders of the party in Ethiope East LGA, noted that the plight of the party in that election was not due to lack of capacity but rather it was due to the activities of some party leaders who sold out.
Omo-Agege however expressed satisfaction for the performance of the party in spite of the compromise by a few bad eggs, stating that for the first time in the history of the State, opposition party captured two senatorial seats, two House of Reps and seven House of Assembly seats.
‘“It wasn’t for lack of capacity, but internal sabotage among some party leaders. However, our focus now is to build a united party strong enough to unseat the PDP and end its years of unproductive governance in Delta.
“For the first time, we won two senatorial seats, one House of Representatives seat—now two—and seven House of Assembly seats. No opposition party has achieved such a feat in Delta State since 1999”, he noted.
The former Deputy President of the Senate had earlier disclosed that the purpose of the interactive meeting was to fathom out the way forward for the progress of the party, noting that focus would be on identifying areas of poor performances in the last election and how to improve in the next election.
“I am here to interact with you on the way forward. The meeting was focused on identifying areas where the party performed poorly in the last election and how to improve ahead of 2027″, he noted.
Omo-Agege however used the occasion to beckon on leaders and stakeholders of the party in Ethiope East LGA to foster unity among members in order to strengthen the position of the party, pointing out that there was need to demonstrate unadulterated commitment for the party in view of the 2027 election.
While expressing optimism on the future of the party in the State, Omo-Agege noted that the defection of Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu, a top chieftain of the PDP to the APC, a day earlier was a sign of a brighter future for the party.
It would be recalled that Rt. Hon. Ibori-Suenu.is the current member representing  Ethiope Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives.  Late last week, she resigned their membership of the PDP in the Green Chambers and early this week, she defected to the APC in Oghara and was received into the party by Senator Ovie Omo-Agege.
Commenting on the development, Omo-Agege noted that it was a good omen, stating that the party was being positioned to capture 2027.
“With these developments, APC is well-positioned to sweep Ethiope Federal Constituency and Delta State in 2027,” he noted.
In her comment on the occasion, Rt. Hon. Erhiatake Ibori-Suenu stressed on the need for greater commitment for the party, adding that leadership in a party is earned through personal contributions to its growth. She also stressed on the need for leaders to remain cohesive in fostering unity.
According to her, “A true party leader does not hoard funds meant for election purposes but one who goes beyond what the party provides to ensure victory.
“When we work together and invest our time and resources, PDP’s days in Delta are numbered”, she assured.
In attendance at the meeting were APC stalwarts from Ethiope East and beyond including, Acting State Chairman of the party, Chief Francis Obigbor, Chief Mrs. Judith Emuobonuvie Enamuotor, Chief Francis Atanomeyovwi (Federal Commissioner, National Assembly Service Commission), Mrs. Blessing Brume-Ataguba (Federal Commissioner, National Population Commission), Hon. Efe Ofobruku, Hon. Oharisi Eric, and Hon. Oshevire Joseph.
Others present include: Hon. Chief Ivwurie Evans, Chief Kent Akigho, Chief Christopher Ominimini, Hon. Innocent Anidi, and Mrs. Hopelyn Ayo.
